It's been too long. The smell of the malt, the hops, my flesh burning. Well, maybe not that last one. I try not to burn myself anymore.
But it's true, I've not fired up the brewery for months. My log shows the last brew was January 15th. That's three months. A quarter of the year without a brew. It needs to be put right and I know just the man for the job.
When I get back from camping, I'm going to dust off the gear and get brewing. So what to brew? I've aquired some hops I've not tried before, Bramling Cross, so I've devised a recipe to hoepfully show off their flavour to give me an idea of whether they are any good.
I've decided to use a high alpha hop for the bitterness and I'll chuck in the Bramling Cross late in the boil, to get the most out of their flavour and aroma. The recipe I'm suggesting is;
Pale Malt 95%
Crystal Malt 5%
52g Target (10.0%) 75min
20g Bramling Cross (5.7%) 10min
20g Bramling Cross (5.7 %) 1min
I'm aiming for a gravity of around 1054 so it should be a nice copper coloured bitter with a bit of bite. I'll stick up some pictures once I've done the brew on Saturday, but for now I've got to pack my camping gear. Adios Amigos!
That's all double Dutch to me. Have a great time camping, hope the weather stays fine for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo, had a great time. No frost, no rain so we can't complain for April. :)
