Neglected

The allotment that is. We only went away for ten days, but in readiness for departure I had to work damn hard, which meant the allotment was put on the back burner for several days before we left. And having had to catch up with things upon our return, the plot has been absent of care for another two weeks or so.

This means it's been left to its own devices for over four weeks. No, what it actually means is weeds...
















courgettes that have turned into marrows...















and fledgling pigeons eyeing up anything and everything they can devour...















It's not all bad though. The new apple tree still has its apples....















And the hops are going crazy. I have First Gold growing up the council's new (but rather bland and brutal) fence at the end of the plot, softening it from this...















to this...















And my new hops have taken off quite well in year one...

    Wow your hops are truly hopping all over that metal fencing.

    Good luck with the weeding, it sure will be backbreaking, but worth it in the end.

    Hi,
    I too am growing hops (for the sleep aid - I will make hops pillows) and last year, their 1st year, they didn't do much - this year they have, like yours, gone mad and make a very good fence covering.

    I've been there!! We also had harsh council fencing, a bit of a shock at the time, but it's starting to blend in. Your hops look fab over it! Julia
